FAQ FAQ (In development)
How does one get started learning to fly? Can I just try it out?
You can "just try it out" with an Introductory Flight. These flights usually start out with a meeting with a FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) who will be teaching you the Four Fundamentals of flying an airplane along with taxiing practice and a few take-offs & landings. It is an exciting hands on experience for you to determine if flying is something you would like to do. How much does it cost to learn to fly?
It depends upon many factors including the school you choose, the aircraft you train in, and how quickly you are able to complete the training. Flight Schools usually charge for the aircraft and the instructor by the hour. Rates vary tremendously depending upon the location, size and overhead of the school. Aircraft rates are primarily determined by size of plane and equipment installed like avionics. Ex: a Cessna 150, a 2 seater with basic equipment may cost $100/hour and a Cessna 172, a larger four seater with similar equipment would cost $120/hour. Aircraft certified for Instrument training cost more than a typical aircraft certified for Visual Flight Rules or initial Private Pilot Training. Aircraft have weight limits as well an you would have to discuss your weight in conjunction with the instructor's weight to verify your limitations, if any. The "quicker" you can learn to fly, the less expensive it will be, BUT any instructor "worth his/her salt" will be sure your training is thorough, comprehensive and complete - unwilling to sacrifice safety for expediency and monetary savings. There are minimum flight times required by the FAA. If you can meet these standards, it is the least expensive way to go, but not necessarily the most comprehensive. In order to accomplish these standards you must be focused on flight training along with homework, reading and studying on your own, and be prepared for each flight lesson. Examples: Sport Pilot Cessna 150
Cessna 172
How do I get started?
Almost anyone with the desire and/or dream to fly can learn! Are you looking for an exciting and outstanding career as a commercial pilot, traveling all over the world while "working"? Visualize yourself with family or friends, flying an airplane to a vacation destination, a business meeting, or just having fun by being in the air away from the constraints of land-locked life while exploring the Champlain Valley! The freedom is exhilarating for those who have learned to fly and gone on to enjoy unlimited adventures that aviation provides. Time : It takes as little as 3 months to 1 year - average time to complete Private Pilot Course with 2 lessons/week is 6 - 8 months. Weather can effect lesson scheduling though we fly all year round.
